چکیده

Expression of results. The increase in hand volume during venous obstruction was expressed graphically against the simultaneous increase in vascular distending pressure: these parameters were measured at intervals of 0.2 to 0.5 sec throughout the period of venous obstruction. A curve was obtained representing the vascular volume-pressure relationship of the hand during each period of venous obstruction. The gradient of this curve represents the change in hand volume resulting from change in vascular distending pressure and was therefore equal to the hand vascular distensibility. As the vascular volume-pressure relationship of the hand was commonly curvilinear (fig. 1) it was necessary to measure the gradient of the resulting line at a constant band volume so that

The effect of adrenaline, noradrenaline and hypertensin on the vascular distensibility of the hand.

The vascular distensibility of the hand was measured by comparing the increase in hand blood volume resulting from intermittent obstruction of the venous return from the hand with the associated increase in vascular distending pressure. This technique has previously been described in detail (Watson, 1961). Hand blood flow was derived from the initial rate of increase of hand volume during a per...

Fluctuations of radial artery distensibility throughout the menstrual cycle.

Estrogen administration has a number of favorable cardiovascular effects, and recent evidence suggests that these include an increase in arterial distensibility. Whether this is also the case for the physiological changes in estrogen production during the menstrual cycle has never been determined, however. In 21 premenopausal healthy women, we continuously measured radial artery diameter and bl...

Some regulatory mechanisms of the human pulmonary vascular bed.

THERE IS still a question regarding the presence of active mechanisms of control for the pulmonary vessels in man. The controversy continues, since evidence for active vasomotion has usually been indirect. Because, in the past, it has been assumed that changes in pulmonary vascular resistance necessarily reflect changes in pulmonary vascular caliber, workers have drawn conflicting conclusions f...

Studying Changes of the Effective Radius in Blood Vessels after Exposure of Lower Extremities to Periodical Mechanical Vibrations

Background: Previous studies demonstrated a health improving effect in patients underwent an automatic vibratory massage taking 10 minutes. One of reasons that may explain a healing effect of the automatic massage is a stimulated increase in both blood circulation through vascular system and effective size of blood vessels. Objective: This paper aims to quantify a contribution of the auto...
